"The Spirit Comes!" by PastorKipp in category Pentecost Acts 2:1-21 Romans 8:22-27 John 15:26-27 16:4b-15

When the Spirit took hold of those disciples in the room with tongues of fire and the sound of mighty wind, they found that they could do things that they didn't know that they could do.  That was the power of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate that Jesus promised to send to them.

There are several important points as I see it: 1) Jesus' disciples that were called into duty.  They were the ordinary people that Jesus empowered to work for the
kingdom of God.  God still chooses to employ humanity in the word of the kingdom. 2) The kingdom of God was being put back to together.  This story is the Tower of Babel reversed.  Languages and human ability to communicate that was shattered in the Babel story is now restored through the power of God's Spirit.  Communication with God and with all of humanity was restored. They all understood what the disciples were preaching about Jesus' death and resurrection. This is the account of God's restoration.

The presence of the Holy Spirit among human beings is the marker that God's restoration is already afoot, even in our age. God's present Spirit is alive in each of us as the power to take part in God's restoration, which is leading to the eternal kingdom to be, established when Jesus returns.  But the Spirit is with us today, calling us to take hold of the power of God to build the kingdom today.  God is calling us and empowering us to do things that we never new we could do.  God is calling us to establish communication with all of humanity as we share the stories of the mighty acts of God that have happened to us in our lives.  God's power is alive in us everyday who have received the Holy Spirit.  Today is the day to build for Christ among all of God's people.
